Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a cure for OI?
A: No.  OI is a genetic disorder that I was born with.  It's caused by a mutation in the COL1A1 or COL1A2 genes that are responsible for the production of collagen.  Some people have a mutation that causes an inadequate amount of collagen - this is what I have.  Others have a more severe type where the collagen that's produced doesn't work right.  Then there are those who have both mutations.  They don't usually live for very long.

Q: How can I help?
A: You can support me in my fundraising drive, or you can make a donation directly to the OI Foundation.

Q: Why only two questions?
A: If you have questions about me or about OI, please email me and I will try to answer them.
